The REINA CRISTINA,
the Spanish Flagship at the Battle of Manila Bay,
was equipped with six 37mm guns. Four of those guns can be seen today
at the United States Coast Guard Academy's Hamilton Building at New
London Connecticut.
Each of the guns has an identical inscription on the
breech. The inscription reads:
"This gun was taken from the Spanish Flagship
REINA CRISTINA after the destruction
of the Spanish Fleet in Manila Bay, May 1,
1898, by the United States Squadron under the command of Commodore George Dewey, United States Navy, and was
afterwards placed on the United States Revenue Cutter McCULLOCH
in recognition of her efficient services when attached to that
Squadron."
