U.S.S. OLYMPIA in Battle

This image, printed in December of 1898 represents the interior of OLYMPIA's berth deck during the Battle of Manila Bay, May 1, 1898.  The gunports at the five inch gun have been dropped open and the gun is being fired. The image is somewhat accurate, however, in the stifling heat few officers wore their full uniforms, let alone carried their sword. The men actually working the guns were definitely wearing no more clothing than is shown, and many reports indicate substantially less! Also, the gun appears to be on a small raised platform, which is inaccurate.
