This medallion was issued on the return of the California Volunteers
(such as the First California Volunteers)
from the Philippines in 1899. The obverse
reads "1899 WELCOME OUR HEROES 1898," and shows the troops in parade
with winged Victory flying overhead with laurel wreaths in both hands.
The reverse reads "RETURN OF CALIFORNIA VOLUNTEERS AT SAN FRANCISCO,
CAL. FROM MANILA P.I."
